What we collect
pianohack.org is a static informational website. We do not require accounts, we do not set tracking cookies, and we do not sell data. The only personal information we collect is the email address — and, if you choose to give it, the name — you provide when downloading certain files, described below.
Downloads
Some downloads (manuals, templates, and the micro-SD card package) ask for your email address before the file downloads. Giving a name is optional. We store what you enter, along with the name of the file you downloaded and the date, in a database hosted by our database provider (Supabase). We use it to keep a record of who has which files so we can help if you need support. We do not sell it or share it with anyone else. Your browser also remembers your details locally so you are not asked again on your next download. To have your details removed from our records, contact us and we will delete them.
News emails
The download form has a tick box for PianoHack news — new templates, firmware releases and tips. It is never ticked for you, and downloading works exactly the same whether you tick it or not. If you do tick it, we send one email asking you to confirm; you only join the list once you click the link in that email. Every news email includes an unsubscribe link that works in one click, and you can also contact us to be removed. We do not send news to anyone who has not confirmed.
Contact and refund forms
The forms on this site compose an email in your own email app addressed to us. Nothing is stored on the website itself. When you send that email, we receive your name, email address, and message, which we use only to respond to you.
Firmware updates
The web-based firmware updater runs locally in your browser using your browser’s serial connection feature. No data about your device is sent to us.
Third-party content
Some pages embed YouTube videos and load fonts from Google Fonts. When you view those pages, YouTube and Google may collect data as described in their own privacy policies. Links to external stores (such as Etsy or Tindie) and other websites are governed by those sites’ policies.
